How We Build Your Budget And Why It Doesn’t Change

Clear basement finishing estimates for homeowners across Salt Lake City, Utah County, and the Wasatch Front

A Basement Estimate You Can Trust Starts With the Details

When you're comparing basement contractors, the numbers can be all over the place. One contractor might give you a price in five minutes. Another might send a one-line estimate a week later. And two bids for what sounds like the same basement can differ by tens of thousands of dollars.

At RemodelCo, we take a different approach. We build your initial planning number around your basement, the scope you want, and the finish level you're considering. Then, once you finalize the details and selections, we turn that planning number into a fixed-price proposal for the agreed scope.

Trust starts with understanding how your number was built and what's actually included in it.

Why Price Per Square Foot Isn't the Whole Estimate

Price per square foot can be a helpful reference point, but it can't tell you what your basement will actually cost.

Two 1,100-square-foot basements can have completely different budgets.

A mostly open basement with bedrooms, one bathroom, and standard finishes costs very differently from the same-size basement with a full kitchen, custom tile shower, upgraded flooring, additional cabinetry, sound control, and premium finishes.

Your basement finishing cost in Salt Lake City and across the Wasatch Front can be affected by:

  • The number of bathrooms
  • A kitchenette or full kitchen
  • Cabinet and countertop quantities
  • Plumbing, electrical, and HVAC needs
  • Layout complexity
  • Finish selections
  • Engineering or structural work
  • Existing conditions

That's why we use square footage as one part of the conversation, not as a shortcut for building your estimate.

How a Planning Range Becomes Your Final Proposal

Your on-site number helps you decide whether the project makes sense. Your final proposal is built after the project details are finalized.

The first number we give you is a detailed planning range based on the measurements, scope, and information available during your consultation.

If that range works for you, we move into the next level of planning. That's when we finalize items such as:

  • Layout and project scope
  • Cabinets and countertops
  • Tile and flooring
  • Plumbing and lighting fixtures
  • Engineering, when required
  • Input from specialty trades
  • Other project-specific selections

Once those details are complete, we prepare your final proposal based on the agreed scope and selections.

That extra planning is important. We'd rather work through the details before construction than start with a low number and figure out the real cost after your basement is already torn apart.

Why Homeowners Trust RemodelCo's Process

Trust comes from clear expectations, detailed planning, and knowing what happens next.

We ask detailed questions before pricing because the details matter, but that same attention continues after you decide to move forward. We set clear expectations around your project, coordinate permits and specialty trades, work through design and material selections, and keep you informed as the project moves from planning into construction.

You'll know what the next steps are, what decisions need to be made, and how your project is progressing. Our team is organized, responsive, and uses modern systems to help keep communication and project details from falling through the cracks.

We also won't recommend improper shortcuts just to make a number look lower. The goal is to give you a well-planned project, clear communication, and a process you can trust from the first estimate through completion.

Frequently Asked Questions About Working with Remodelco

How accurate is the estimate you give me on-site?expand_more

The on-site number is a detailed planning range, not your final contract price. It's based on measurements, your proposed scope, and the information we can gather during the consultation. Final pricing comes after the scope and material selections are completed.

How will I know what's happening with my project?expand_more

Clear communication is part of how RemodelCo manages your project. We'll set expectations around next steps, scheduling, decisions, and project milestones, and keep you informed as your basement moves from planning into construction.

Who coordinates the Salt Lake City permits and specialty trades?expand_more

RemodelCo manages the construction process, including permits and coordination with the specialty trades involved in your project. That means you won't be left trying to organize electricians, plumbers, engineers, and other contractors on your own.

Do you warranty your work?expand_more
Yes. RemodelCo provides a one-year craftsmanship warranty covering defects from poor workmanship or improper installation.
Why can't you just give me a price per square foot for my basement remodeling project?expand_more

Because square footage doesn't account for the parts of a basement that can dramatically affect cost. Bathrooms, kitchens, cabinetry, plumbing, finish selections, and layout changes can make two basements with the same square footage very different projects.

For a deeper look at typical ranges and the factors that affect your investment, read our guide to how much basement finishing costs in Salt Lake City.

Does RemodelCo use the same budgeting process for other remodeling projects?expand_more

The same general approach applies to kitchens, bathrooms, and whole-home remodels: RemodelCo starts by understanding the scope, existing conditions, and selections before finalizing pricing. The Good, Better, Best planning tiers on this page are specific to basement finishing.

Can you finish a basement for $10,000?expand_more

For the full basement finishing projects RemodelCo takes on, $10,000 isn't a realistic budget. Our current planning ranges for an approximately 1,100-square-foot basement begin around $55,000, depending on the scope, layout, and selections.

If you're comparing a $10,000 quote with a full basement finishing proposal, make sure you're comparing exactly what's included. A limited DIY-assisted scope or a small portion of the basement is very different from a professionally managed, permitted, fully finished basement.

Seamless & Predictable

Our Process

1 | Consultation
It starts with a quick phone call and an on-site visit. We'll walk through your space, ask the detailed questions other contractors skip, and put together an estimate range before we leave so you have real numbers to work with from day one.
2 | Design & Selections
Next, we lock in the details. If you need design help, we will connect you with our trusted partner designer. Once the direction is set, we finalize your materials, coordinate subcontractors, and build out a fixed-price proposal so you know exactly what your project will cost.
3 | Construction
Once you approve the proposal, we get to work. Our team manages every piece of the build, communicates with you consistently along the way, and finishes with a careful walkthrough to make sure your new space looks great and functions even better.

Project Reviews

What Our Clients Are Saying

"Working with this team was a really positive experience. I have been burned by contractors in the past, so I’m always a bit hesitant. They showed up on time and were very transparent on the bid prices. Cody did amazing work, was on time, and communicated through each step, and was helpful with options. We had them tear down and replace trim around our garage and replace the siding by the garage siding. When the siding was removed, we discovered there used to be a door to our garage—we quickly shifted gears to restore and install a new door. They were very flexible with scope change, and Cody was meticulous with his craftsmanship."

"RemodelCo did an amazing job. They showed up when they said they would. They took care to approach each job carefully and did really fine work. My dad passed away seven years ago, so my mom hasn’t had anyone to do the odd jobs around the house, and this is the quality of work that he would have done. I can’t recommend them highly enough."
